A commitment to transparency

The tuna that reaches the tables of millions of consumers, both in Italy and the rest of the world, boasts a real biography, starting from its origins right up until the time that it is delivered to the counters of mass retailing channels. And, what is more, this biography is “written” on each can, because consumers have a right to this information. From the time that it is fished right up to its processing, canning and subsequent sterilization, the tuna is constantly monitored.

On vessels, at the factory and in the laboratories where tests and analyses of all types are carried out on the product, the tuna travels with a tag indicating its name, surname and address: the manufacturer knows from what sea it originated and on which vessel it travelled, to what factory lot it belonged, in which can it was found and in which basket the can was contained.

In the event of defects being found in any one specimen, this system enables the manufacturer to trace other similar ones, using the same procedure, in order to thus remedy the situation. Likewise, at any given moment, it also enables the manufacturer to evaluate the quality of the work performed by this or that supplier during the production process.
Although this is already a lot, it is not yet everything. By bearing in mind the recommendations stipulated by ISSF (International Seafood Sustainability Foundation) of which Bolton Alimentari is a member, the company intends to provide a series of additional information about the product served at mealtimes.

These include: type of vessel used to catch the fish, geographic catch area and date on which the fishing expedition took place, fishing technique used, quality of the tuna canned and date of canning. All of this information allows Bolton Alimentari to offer the most widespread guarantees about product quality and compliance with the regulations in force pertaining to environmental sustainability which, today, must be respected by any company that is committed to the health of human beings and the ecosystem. It also allows those who love Rio Mare tuna to eat and enjoy it in the awareness that it is safe. To fully achieve this objective, Bolton Alimentari is working towards ensuring that the traceability system used for a can of tuna will soon be extended to the packaging of all of its other products.
